We\u2019re excited to share that we\u2019ve just added another powerful image recognition capability to our offering \u2013 Facial Recognition API<\/a> for face detection and recognition of faces in still images and live stream videos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Using the API, companies can implement face recognition functionality in their web, desktop, and mobile applications and systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

How the facial recognition algorithm sees a face?<\/b><\/h1>\n

The face recognition algorithm \u201csees\u201d a face as a complex numerical code containing hundreds of facial measurements. Examples of facial measurements include: the distance between the eyes, the width of the nose, length of the jawline, depth of the eye sockets, shape of your cheekbones, and more. These specific facial measurements are called nodal points, and each face has 500 such points. The unique combination of all these measurements creates an anonymous numerical code, which represents the face in the database.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How facial recognition works?<\/b><\/h1>\n

  1. Face detection<\/strong>
    \n<\/span>First, the face is extracted from the rest of the image using a technology called object localization.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Face analysis<\/strong>
    \n<\/span>Often the head is tilted, which can distort the data, so the technology locates the face attributes like eyes, nose and ears to correct the face rotation or tilt. Then it takes the facial<\/span> measurements of the reference image and creates the unique numerical code we mentioned above.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Comparison<\/strong>
    \n<\/span>The last step is looking for the exact match or one with a high level of confidence in a pre-defined or custom, still or dynamic database.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
