It\u2019s always been well attended by entrepreneurs from all over Europe and beyond. More than that, people the startupers admire &#8211; we read their books and blogs &#8211; are actually speakers at leWeb. And they keep coming every year. After <a title=\"Imagga @ Techcrunch Disrupt Europe\" href=\"https:\/\/imagga.com\/blog\/techcrunch-disrupt-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Techcrunch Disrupt Belin<\/a> and <a title=\"Imagga @ WebSummit Dublin\" href=\"https:\/\/imagga.com\/blog\/imagga-websummit-dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Web Summit in Dublin<\/a>, leWeb wasn\u2019t in our program for this year, but Chris won a free ticket from <a title=\"Invest in France Agency\" href=\"http:\/\/www.invest-in-france.org\/us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Invest in France<\/a> and that was a good sign we should attend.<\/p>\n<p>It was exciting to be there and see the French way of doing events. It\u2019s relaxed but at the same time quite exquisite. Techcrunch Disrupt has the hipster flavor of Berlin, Pioneers Festival enjoys the most luxurious venue being held in Hofburg Palace in Vienna, WebSummit pretends to be the biggest event in Europe, while leWeb is just French, and it\u2019s French in a very good way &#8211; extremely good food all day long, comfy lounge zone to meet people and charge your devices, the best lineup of speakers ever.<\/p>\n<p>Best events are not just what happens on stage, but also the networking. With parties every night leWeb offers lots of opportunities to meet people. Well, meeting investors was quite a challenge as they were kept in a VIP area just above our heads (a bit irritating to segregate and make it so visible even during parties \ud83d\ude09 ). Do not ask how we ended up there&#8230; friends \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Need not to say we spent most of the time networking, not just during parties but during the day as well. Well, couple of the speakers were must listen as these guys are setting trends and always have so much insight on the whole ecosystem so we decided to better sit and listen.<\/p>\n<p>One of these people we really enjoyed listening was <a title=\"Fred Wilson Blog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.avc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fred Wilson<\/a>. He was invited to speak about what\u2019s going to happen in the next ten years but instead he shared 3 big trends he\u2019s interested investing in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Transition from bureaucratic hierarchies to technology-driven networks<\/strong>. Think <a title=\"Imagga @ Twitter \" href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/imagga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twitter<\/a> vs. classic newspapers, <a title=\"YouTube\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTub<\/a>e vs. cable tv, <a title=\"SoundCloud\" href=\"http:\/\/soundcloud.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SoundCloud<\/a> vs. traditional music labels. We are in the early stage of that trend, but it\u2019s happening not just in media, but hotel reservations (<a title=\"AirBnB\" href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AirBnB<\/a>), creative (<a title=\"kickstarter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kickstarter<\/a>), learning (<a title=\"Codecademy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.codecademy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Codecademy<\/a>, <a title=\"Duolingo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.duolingo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duolingo<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unbundling<\/strong> &#8211; deliver much more focused services vs. the old model of newspaper with business pages, culture, sports section. This is already happening in banking, education and entertainment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Smartphones<\/strong> &#8211; people are more willing to sacrifice their laptops rather than smartphones if they need to choose one. With the phone you can do things you can\u2019t with your laptop and there will be way more great applications to utilize mobile. Great examples are apps that are disrupting taxi service (<a title=\"Uber\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uber<\/a>), payments (<a title=\"Square Payments\" href=\"https:\/\/squareup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Square<\/a>), dating (Tinder)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He stated he doesn\u2019t look at technologies but in trends, that will have behavioural and social impact. Of course mobile, big data and machine learning are hot technologies but it\u2019s not technology itself, but it\u2019s practical implementation. Lots of contacts to follow up, great time networking, inspiring speeches and memorable meetings with awesome people.
